Our Heritage
Puteri Java Studio was founded in 2025 in Solo (Surakarta) — the heartland of Javanese batik-making, where canting and wax-resist dyeing have been practised for generations. Our work is grounded in that lineage: studied, refined, and made with intention.
We work with natural indigo, soga bark, and tegeran dyes, drawing on traditional colour-building methods passed through craftswomen in our workshop. Each length of fabric carries the marks of hands that know the cloth.
Today we supply wholesale to brands and importers across Asia, Europe, and beyond — partners who want something genuinely made, not mass-produced.
The Process
Every piece of Puteri Java batik passes through a four-step process rooted in Javanese craft practice. The hands that make it understand the cloth they are working with.
Pattern drawn and planned — motif selection, proportion, and repeat mapped before cloth is touched.
Wax-resist applied by hand with the canting tool — the defining mark of authentic batik tulis.
Colour built in layers through repeated immersion — natural and mineral dyes give each piece its depth.
Washed, wax-removed, set, and individually inspected for consistency before packing for shipment.

Each motif is presented as a labelled textile sample — name, meaning, and fabric specification. Inquire directly about any motif to begin a conversation.
